Some Key Issues...
• Sporthorse export value is estimated at $18.7m annually.
• Need to raise expertise in selling/dealing with purhasers.
Quality was a word people used to illustrate what is wanted.
This applies to Improving horse performance when selling as
well as improving riders – reduction of aggressive horse
handling, increasing a
professional approach to horse education.
• Competitiors governments financially back their equestrian
sectors. Ireland stud fees pay no taxation; Germany, France
and Ireland
receive huge funds from their governments. In the USA large
numbers of amateurs fund the professionals. In NZ ‘we
have do it
yourselfers who all have a horse in the paddock’. There
is not enough money in the sport – we are mostly amateurs.
• There are people in Counties who earn 90% of their
income from exporting Sporthorses.
